Frequently asked questions
What information do you need to give me a quote? +
Send a photo of the whole rod plus closeups of the damaged area (tip, guide, wrap, handle, or reel seat) from a few angles, along with the rod type and how it is used. Photos are not required, but they help. For a custom build, add your target fishing, rod size and action, wrap colors or design, and whether you want a performance or basic rod.
How much does repair, refabrication, or a custom build cost? +
All figures are estimated. A 7-foot refabrication typically runs about $125–$200, including a custom wrap and design, new guides, and a new reel seat. Custom builds run about $200–$350 basic, $500–$750 mid-range, and $800–$1,000 high-end. A simple rewrap is about $30–$50. Repairs are quoted individually and are mostly straightforward unless there is a specific customization, such as an offshore guide.
Do you require a deposit? +
Custom builds require a 50% deposit to cover the cost of materials. For other work, a deposit is confirmed at consultation.
What is a realistic turnaround time? +
Estimated: repairs about 7–10 days, a simple rewrap up to about a week, refinish-only up to about two weeks, and custom builds about 2–3 weeks. Timing varies with the scope of the work and parts availability.
Do you guarantee your work? +
All craftsmanship is guaranteed for life. Materials are not guaranteed.
Do you give quotes or estimates? +
Repairs are quoted. Refabrications are estimated, since the final price depends on what we find once the rod is in hand.
What can make a job cost more than expected? +
Unforeseen guide issues, or reel seat and grip problems that were not visible up front.
Do you repair tips and guides? +
Yes. Tips and guides are the repairs we do most, and they are usually straightforward. Loose or cracked reel seats and falling-apart handles need an in-person look.
Do you work on every rod type? +
We work on pretty much all basic rod types: freshwater, saltwater, surf, spinning, and conventional. We would want to look at a high-tech designer rod with unusual components before promising anything. A split, crack, or snap in the rod itself is almost always impossible to repair.
Can I choose the colors and components? +
Yes. Thread colors, wrap style, guides, grips, and reel seat are all part of the conversation for custom builds, and refabrications offer almost full customization too. You can also supply your own parts.
How do I pay? +
Cash or credit card.
Can I ship my rod to you? +
Yes. You arrange and pay for shipping and packaging both ways. If a rod arrives damaged, we send you photos and you handle the claim directly with the shipper. Local pickup and drop-off is by appointment.
What is the fastest way to reach you? +
Phone, email, Facebook, and Instagram all work.
Where are you based, and do you serve my area? +
We are based in Southern Delaware and serve Sussex County and the Eastern Shore. Most of our work is in and around Sussex County. Customers in nearby Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey can be worked out case by case.
